The editorial team of Visions of Scale, NCAD Gallery and NCAD would like to invite you to the two-day symposium Visions of Scale, taking place at NCAD on the 23rd and 24th of October. 2025. The symposium aims to bring together key thinkers with distinct disciplinary backgrounds to discuss and problematise uses and theories of scale. Over the two days, we will share dialogues and responses to think through the scalar tools needed to navigate the range of problems we face in 2025, and how we might go about developing those tools, especially through artistic practice.
Confronted with climate collapse, ongoing deterritorialization and rampant global neoliberalism, scalar binaries, such as the local vs the global, fail to capture the complexity of these problems. Visions of Scale questions how we might develop ways of thinking that allow us to navigate scale as both a tool and a problem. The symposium is open to people at all stages in their careers, from inside and outside of academia, and we especially encourage participation by artists.
Alongside talks, roundtables and workshops, there will be an ongoing exhibition hosted at NCAD Gallery with performances and interactive engagements throughout the two days.
The symposium will run from 09:30 – 18:00 each day, is free and vegetarian catering will be provided; however, registering for the event online is mandatory: https://visionsofscale.eventbrite.com
